During the current International Design Festival DMY in Berlin from June 5th to June 9th product designer Hermann August Weizenegger ( VALSE AUTOMATIQUE ) presents three projects: concept store Merkwürdigkeiten des Sehens, Metal Scapes and group exhibition Refugium.

Our good friend Lukas Feireiss ( MADE projects SCRATCH’N'CUT, RESEEN) has invited Dutch artists Baschz Leeft and Janjoost Jullens to co-host an exhibition examining the most prevailing myths on Berlin, called “El Segundo”.

Together, the artists merge backgrounds in societal research, design, interaction and street culture, as El Segundo provides a thorough but humorous view
on this city of arts, activism, immigrant entrepreneurs and omnipresent pink pipes…

This past April saw the premiere of 5 CUTS – A VISUAL DIALOGUE with Yohji Yamamoto, at MADE.

5 CUTS attempted to liberate the iconic Japanese fashion designer from the fashion spotlight he has been reduced to for over 3 decades.

After spending many hours and engaging in an intimate and personal exchange with Mr. Yamamoto over the past several months in Tokyo and in Paris, we, the MADE team, carefully selected 5 instances – cuts – which we felt best to capture his spirit and show the artist, the craftsman, the man…Yohji Yamamoto.

We were honored to have Mr. Yamamoto with us at MADE, and have him, along with everyone in attendance, experience the premiere of the video installation.

Today, we are happy to present the film recap of the premiere, and to provide a glimpse into the 5 CUTS video installation.

This past Saturday, April 27th, saw the premiere of the latest MADE project, 5 CUTS – A VISUAL DIALOGUE with Yohji Yamamoto.

5 CUTS attempts to liberate iconic Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto from the fashion spotlight he has been reduced to for over 3 decades.

After engaging in an intimate and personal exchange with Mr. Yamamoto over the past several months in Tokyo and in Paris, we, the MADE team, carefully selected 5 instances – cuts – which we felt best to capture his spirit and show the artist, the craftsman, the man…Yohji Yamamoto.

Yohji Yamamoto is one of the few remaining timeless craftsmen and most fascinating personalities of
our time. He is globally admired and celebrated for his unique attitude and approach in
the fashion world, while being paradoxically reduced to it at the same time.

5 CUTS | A VISUAL DIALOGUE is a video installation centered around
the spirit of this man, and attempts to liberate him from the ever-present fashion spotlight.

The installation brought to life at MADE does not focus on Yohji Yamamoto’s extraordinary
skill in dressmaking. Rather, it shines an authentic and creative light behind the very
prominent façade of this visionary man.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons/Spring Recomposed by Max Richter

Our good friend, composer Max Richter, who we had the great pleasure of working with on FUTURE SELF has

recently embarked on a new project – recomposing and reworking “The Four Seasons”, written by Antonio Vivaldi in 1723.

Max, together with British violinist Daniel Hope, German conductor André de Ridder; and the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester Berlin, embarked on this journey with great fondness for Vivaldi’s work -

“I’ve known The Four Seasons since childhood”, Max says. “It is such engaging, attractive material that it’s easy for young people to connect with it; it’s very immediate. As everyone does, I had the piece in my brain and knew my favourite moments.”
