Our dear dear friend Jaybo, who was an integral part of MOMENTS WITH ALOE BLACC and ERYKAH BADU, is taking his craft to Los Angeles with a solo exhibition and residency at Soze Gallery. The exhibition, “SILENT/LISTEN”, opens February 28, 2012.

This will be Jaybo’s first time traveling to the US, let alone working and presenting there, a fact that is quite significant to the exhibition itself:

“For “SILENT/LISTEN”, I painted on school chalk boards, as a symbol of time and about the memories of my feeling when America was getting over my head and way of life,” Jaybo says. “i used to believe that America was a promise land. a place where people could have a chance to succeed. I read the comics magazines. watched the silent films… and all of these were major influence on my life, and my first contact with TV was the landing on the moon.”

“This exhibition is a bit of the silent movie of my souvenirs around my early thoughts about America – the colors are kept used and sunburned. I use the silhouette of film noir; Chandler, Orson Wells, the Hollywood of the 40′s… all of it coming fragmented and back to the surface mixed with the actual position that i have about America. I’ve never been there, so this is a bit of a major move for me.”

Apart from the exhibition’s pieces, Jaybo will display other sculptures, painted photography, as well as drawings of his.

If you are in LA, make sure to stop by to experiences this great artist’s work.
